TASK 1 :

Introduction

   We had been given two tasks to do for our Introduction to the Entrepreneurship assignment. First, we need to do report about the 10 entrepreneurial traits that an entrepreneur should possess. We were asked to describe the entrepreneurial traits and how it’s applied by the entrepreneur to operate their business. We also need to give the examples of entrepreneur that have each of the traits.
   Then, we need to choose one entrepreneur that best fits with all the traits and write a brief biography about him/her. After that, we need to explain how the entrepreneur possess 5 of the traits above. Besides, we also need to explain how this traits helps them to be successful in their ventures.
    For our second assignment, we need to do a blog to transfer on our written assignment and to achieve comments from global netizen. We were also able to post the information regarding the entrepreneurship.
    Entrepreneurial traits are characteristics that an entrepreneur should possess in order to be successful. They must be brave to take the risks, be proactive, has a good vision, have a large base of networked, be observant, ready to experience failures, knows the outcome oriented, open culture and able to work as a team oriented.

    All the traits are important to the entrepreneur as moving towards developing country in 2020, entrepreneurship are among the most contributed fields of Malaysia success. Smaller, medium and big type of business are going to grow in Malaysia, so each entrepreneur must have all the types of traits in order to compete with other entrepreneurs and be the best among them.



Team Oriented

       Entrepreneur can be defined as a person who operates a business is so successful with the motive of gain in addition to adopting strategic practices to succeed. The definition of the word entrepreneur or entrepreneurship very wide and varies by individual. First, the word is understood in the context of business entrepreneurs (business in general terms, without distinguishing the company).  Second, there is a tendency to distinguish between businesses and entrepreneurs, may differ on the basis of size or other attributes.  Besides that entrepreneurs are individuals who runs a company while businesses who do business. Examples of the use of the word futures and derivatives of words give the impression of a small-scale but one example of the merchant ship.  Instead of company linked to the size of a large but small companies.
        In business success comes not only comes from the effort and sweat of individuals them selves, not in the world of business whether small or large, involving organization with the arrival or cooperation and team oriented in a business that closely. Cooperation and team oriented very important to ensure that the goals and targets of the company are achieved.  The spirit of cooperation and team oriented we can see in yourself and the leadership of an entrepreneur who has been successful and has become a well-known and successful entrepreneur, Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhari.
        Much has been said about a famous Malaysian Bumiputera tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhari. He is very famous entrepreneurship in Malaysian.  He is become the richest Bumiputera in Malaysia with assets of 167 billion, whose name is famous both at home and abroad. With a lot of interest in various business areas including transport and logistics, plantations, property development, defence and armoury as well as engineering and power generation, he was a symbolic figure who holds the philosophy that 'education does not guarantee success in life, but hard work'.
       Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar start a business by helping her mother grow and sell vegetables in the market. The onset of where he started in the business world to help his father in the cattle business but it does not last long and straight bankruptcy. This case thus raised again his enthusiasm and confidence to progress to go further in the business world. The business of selling of which have been assumed by him from his father, he was transferred to the business transportation. Businesses that have managed to bring substantial revenue to the team oriented that was shown by him and the company's staff. 
        As a result of the success he has established a company Shah in 1975 and has been a supplier of rice to several subsidiaries in Johor State Economic Development Corporation. Good cooperation has shown a great success in his company.

OBSERVANT

        The attitude of the observations in the action taken is one of the features that are important in themselves an entrepreneur who wants to. An entrepreneur will not be able to make decisions blindly but all aspects that will be faced have already been taken into account. It is also similar to an entrepreneur who wants to engage in investment, all factors and arrangements have been taken into account to avoid the risk of loss entrepreneurs with the huge amount. These characteristics are highlighted by Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary when he engages in the business world of work.
        Throughout the story of Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary the first life come from families living in deprivation, this leads him to change his life and the fate of the family. Although he only continued his education until grade five, this does not mean he was not knowledgeable. Most of the knowledge gained through direct experience when he was active in the business world since childhood. Due to needy families, she often helped her mother grow vegetables and sell at the market and at the same time selling bread rolled in the same market. After the expiry of school hours, he would help his father herding animals. So much knowledge and experience he gained while performing such work.
       In 1970, his father's livestock business slump following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease. It spread to the rest of South Thailand, Kedah and Perlis. All livestock perished only. However, with such a spirit, she decided to take over his father's business and decided to continue his father's business but not engaging farming but sells the meat on a small scale. This shows her clever in taking the opportunity to continue his father's business despite having suffered great loss because he was a visionary in making a decision.
       In addition, he also took the opportunity to get involved in the transportation business because he was convinced that this area will be beneficial to the community. He called the Transport Company Ltd and used truck-lorry to start rice business. From there, he set up a joint venture with a rice trader and holds a stake of 52 percent. He subsequently expand to other commodities such as sugar and annual revenues Bukhary Sdn Bhd RM250 million. Not at that, he is also expanding its business in the supply of rice, flour, milk and so on to the government.
       After expanding its business fields ranging from commodities to transport, packaging and barter, he then moved into manufacturing this contract due to his success making military uniforms for the Ministry of Defence and established two companies Amtek Holdings and Oriental Garments Uniforms and subsidiaries Amtek Holdings successfully removed military footwear and clothing designer Lee Cooper and Lois for the export market. Not content with the clothing business, he engaged in shipping business and establish Bukhari Shipping acting as a broker vessel under the Cabotage policy. He also bought a German ship of USD1 million given name Goose Mas for transporting rice from Thailand to Sabah and Sarawak. However, business is a loss that forced him to sell the ship he bought. Despite the losses incurred, Tan Sri Mokhtar Al-Bukhary bought some land in Alor Setar and initiate housing projects under Bukhary Development Company.
       In conclusion, it is clear that the failure to apply the measures taken by Tan Sri Mokhtar Al-Bukhary never hindered her in strengthening our position in the field of business conducted in order to continue moving forward. This is because he is an entrepreneur indigenous foresight in making his actions so proud natives of our country as a successful entrepreneur.

Failure is an option

     Failure is the fact that something not working or stopping to work the way it should be. People always think negatively when we talk about failure. They always think that people who fail are very terrible that they cannot take care of themselves that lead to their failure. Every person needs to be failed at least once so that they will grow up stronger. Same goes to the entrepreneur. They must experience failure so that they will be able to face all the hardships later and become more successful and not to feel too secure. But they must be able to get up again whenever they failed by making new strategies, plans and goals so that they will never be a loser but just someone who are having their learning process. They must be able to look past it and move on. Entrepreneur should realize that it was not easy to do a business. They should be able to face all the hardships, consequences and take all the risks for their decisions. Once fails, does not mean that we will fails again later. (Padgett, K.W. Akio Morita, 2015).
      For an entrepreneur to be success, it is better to try and fail rather than escapes from the situation to avoid failure. Failure is an option. How we look for the failure makes us the hero or the zero. When we think that failure helps us to strengthen our minds, and improve our confidence level, we will be able to sort out the problems that we face and bring up a new ideas on how to strategize new business plan. But if we think that failure is the restrictions from being successful, then you will never success. (Padgett, K.W. Akio Morita, 2015).
       As a conclusion, it is okay to fail many times before you succeed. The most important things, is how you learn from your mistakes and become better because of them. Remember, it is ourselves to decide who we are going to be. A loser or a winner.  A failure that learns from his mistakes and do even better than his previous one will be winner if he grab all the opportunity and never give up. (Padgett, K.W. Akio Morita, 2015).
       The entrepreneur that portrays the failure is an option traits is Akio Morita, the founder of Sony. After World War 2, Japanese company started to fill up the American market with cheap, poorly made products and American company known the “Made in Japan” as poor quality products. But, Akio Morita changed the assumptions with the establishment of Sony, the international company with high quality products and popular among the telecommunication users and companies. Morita graduated with a degree in physics from Osaka Imperial University. He meets Masaru Ibuka when he was a lieutenant in the Japanese Navy and the two men decided to form a partnership. (Padgett, K.W. Akio Morita, 2015).
        They started Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering, Corp in a bombed-out department store in the ruins of post war Tokyo. Their first product was an automatic rice cooker, but it was not very successful. Then, they continues to developed new technology, a tape recorder and a pocket-size radio. In 1958, he changed the company’s name to Sony, which made up of Latin word, sonus, which means sound and sonny, which he thought was a “friendly” term that also sounded like a sun. (Padgett, K.W. Akio Morita, 2015).
       In 1960, he formed an American subsidiary called Sony Corporation of America. In 1961, Sony was the first Japanese Corporation to have it’s stock listed on the New York Stocks Exchange and Sony was the first Japanese company to build a manufacturing facility in the United States. Akio Morita’s foray into selling an automatic rice cooker was a failed because the rice cooker burnt more rice than it cooked. Sony Insider goes on to note that the rice cooker was a memorable failure for Morito and her partner, Masaru Ibuka. The tasty rice was a rarity as the rice cooker produced mostly undercooked or overcooked rice and were called a primitive products. Fewer than 100 units were sold to public. (Padgett, K.W. Akio Morita, 2015). 
        But Morita was never give up and try to produces a new, great products for Sony later. He learns from his failure, but he stand up again and build many more products that captivated the heart of people like the first battery-powered portable TV, the Trinitron picture tube and the first colour homes video recorder called the Betamax. Sonny also developed several media standards, the 3 1/2 inch floppy drive, 8 mm video tape and the audio CD in a joint effort with Phillips. (Padgett, K.W. Akio Morita, 2015).

OPEN RISK TAKER 

         Dare to take risks is one of the most important features in itself an entrepreneur who wants to.  NETWORKED

      Tan Sri Tony Fernandes is the great leader and the successful entrepreneurs in an airline. He gets into the Forbes in 2014 and now ranked on 33 in the Forbes 50 Malaysia Richest 2015. Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, who the first introduced the no-frills budget airline, Air Asia, to Malaysians. It becomes popular with the tagline “Now everyone can fly”
      Previously, Tony Fernandes are involved in the music industry for 14 years. Until 2001, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes decide to leave the Warner Music and pursuit his dreamed up of starting a no-frills budget airline.
      Tan Sri Tony Fernandes wanted to start Malaysia's first low cost airline a few years ago, but he couldn't get a license. He convinced 3 partners – Datuk Pahamin A. Rajab and directors Abdul Aziz Abu Bakar and Kamarudin Meranun to start Tune Air Sdn Bhd. Datuk Pahamin, the former secretary general of the Malaysian Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and Chairman of Tune Air, helped setup a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
      Tan Sri Tony Fernandes describe the meeting with Dr. Mahathir as scary. Tony said, “We were all terrified to see him; he was like a God in Malaysia. I have never met a minister, let alone the PM. I don’t get scared very often but at that time I was very nervous, more so because we were told beforehand that he could be in a bad mood that day as the people who visited him prior to our appointment were the Opposition and people from Malaysia Airlines”. (Yim. B, 2015,).
      Tan Sri Tony Fernandes showed a business plan to operate low cost carrier can revving up tourism and business activities. He didn’t have much money to buy an airline and had no idea where to buy it even has received the blessing from Dr. Mahathir
      Then, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes walked area around and saw 2 airlines- Pelangi Air and Air Asia which was for -merely owned by DRB- Hicom.  “Air Asia was in bad shape too at that point so I cheekily said I would buy it for RM 1”.  (Yim. B,  2015).
   Tan Sri Tony Fernandes mortgaged his home and used his personal savings to acquire the company and pay one ringgit to take over Air Asia. On December 8 2001, Tune Air officially acquired 99.25% equity of 51.68 million shares from DRBHICOM Bhd and took over Air Asia, Malaysia’s second national carrier.
     As the conclusion, Tony Fernandes a successful entrepreneur and the traits of network had given him a chance the world. One of the motto by Tony Fernandes always “dream the impossible”

Visionary     

      One of criteria to become as entrepreneurship is visionary, so how big their visionary it related to their successful today. With visionary their change the life to become more comfortable. One of the entrepreneurship that I very admired is Irfan Khairi, he can change him interest become he job that give him a lot benefit. So let’s we know more about Irfan Khairi and learn from to give us inspire.
      Irfan Khairi was born in Perak, but grew up in Selangor and now he is residing in Seremban. He was fully applies the knowledge of Internet and Multimedia learned to become a millionaire as young as 25 years old. Irfan Khairi already make a target to become a millionaire when he 18 years old, he write down what he want and when he must get it before 30 year old. Why we must write about what we want in our life.
      After completing his studies in the United Kingdom, Irfan was offered to work with one of the largest IT companies in Birmingham, Net media (UK) Ltd. As a multimedia system developer and a multimedia consultant, Irfan was responsible to create an Internet learning system for the schools in United Kingdom called the Learning Grid. Currently there are more than 5,000 schools across the United Kingdom using the Learning Grid system.
      However, with the background and knowledge as well as his passion in Internet and with his entrepreneurship values, he went on to start his own business part time in the year 1999., he decided to start a part-time Internet business back in 1999. He said in one of video that he share on live in Facebook, the best time to work is around 1800pm until 0200am to make business.
      He then decided to pursue his Internet business full time after 1 year of operation as he was getting more income from the Internet than his 9-5 job. Since then, Irfan has been working full time from home using his laptop through the Internet. Within 3 years of operation, one of his Internet businesses has generated RM1, 000,000 net profit - without workers and state-of-the-art computers. And his start-up costs was only RM500.00 He was 25 years old then.
       The company which he named after himself, Irfan Khairi Sdn. Bhd, has served more than 3000 customers around the globe. Most of these people are from USA, UK, European countries and the Middle East, as well as Japan and Australia. Those countries in which he provided E-books, develop graphics and websites, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) service, selling maps, online hotel bookings, Multimedia, E-commerce and Learning Consultancy.
        To date, He has made many appearances in printed media as well as TV and radio shows all over. Such as “Masculine, Mingguan Wanita “, Nur, Dewan Masyarakat, Dewan Ekonomi, Mingguan Malaysia, Berita Harian, Malay Mail, Harian Metro and Kosmo , RTM1, RTM2,TV3, Astro, 8TV dan TV9. Besides that, he also make appearances on live in Facebook“, #TanyaIKlive every Friday. He also create a “segmen motivasi pantas”, a short video but fully with motivation.
     He also active write the book about how to be millionaire, until now he already write down around 6 books and more. From the book it really help to give a clear visionary in their life.
              Last but not least, he also doing a workshop. Even if you do not start an Internet business instantly after the workshop, you will greatly benefit with the life skills shown to you by this inspiring young entrepreneur. A lot of motivation that he share in the workshop. Besides, this is what Irfan Khairi said.
                        "Making my first million at the age of 25 was not LUCK. I have been studying wealth and success since I was 18. That was when I set my goal to make a million. It took me 7 years!"
           
Proactive
      Becoming a successful entrepreneur requires many skills. One of the key components of being an entrepreneur is planning ahead. You need to know your business inside and out. There are many aspects that you cannot control in the real world - that is the reality of being an entrepreneur. However, you can maintain some control by being proactive.
      Being proactive means, “creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened”. This is a vital skill in the entrepreneur world. (Miller “Skip” William, 2001)
       Proactive personalities "scan for opportunities, show initiative, take action, and persevere until they reach closure by bringing about change"(Bateman and Crant 1993).
      Entrepreneurs actively scan the environment for opportunities, recognize that the window may not remain open long, and engage in entrepreneurial behaviour to pursue them (Becherer & Maurer, 1999).

      T. Ananda Krishnan, popularly known as AK, is the richest man in Malaysia, currently estimated to have a fortune worth US$ 7.4 billion, making him the third wealthiest man in Southeast Asia and standing number 119 in the world. He was born in 1938, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. He got his primary education at Vivekananda Tamil School, Kuala Lumpur, and then pursued his secondary education at Victoria Institution, one of Malaysia’s oldest schools. Later on he got his tertiary education at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.
      During his student days, he ventured into his first business which was a small scale horse race betting operation. This business has registered phenomenal growth after several years of struggling. Despite having a hugely grown business, Ananda Krishnan pursued his graduate studies, and obtained his Master of Business Administration Degree from Harvard University in 1964. AK is also known for his humble disposition, and for maintaining a low profile image among the ethnic Indian community in Malaysia. Though Ananda Krishnan hates public exposure, his entrepreneurial ventures have brought him into limelight, and he has got global recognition. He is also known for his generosity, as he has his own charitable foundation called Nusantara Foundation that offers scholarships to needy and promising students to further their studies. Furthermore, he has also donated a huge amount of Ringgit Malaysia (RM) i.e. 160 million to the Malaysia Education Foundation.
      Ananda’s primary goal and farsighted mission was to diversify; as a successful entrepreneur; he diversified into various businesses from his small scale betting operations into oil trading, multimedia, communication and even real estate industry. Diversifying helps Ananda to build his business profitability as also to maintain and create job opportunity for the community. It is also another of his business strategies which reduces risk for himself. His concept of diversification basically is an alternate source of revenue generation in the event of any tough times. Diversifying has already increased Ananda’s companies in terms of scale and scope by providing new products and services. Ananda has the quality of being innovative. He has invented new goods and services that benefit the consumers. For example, he had decided to launch 2 MEASAT satellites in space, which could enable any Malaysian subscriber to use the services provided by Maxis to communicate with any part of the world. Now Maxis offers everyone almost the best communication portal in terms of broadband, wireless technology and video call services. Maxis, as we know, was a public listed company and now it has been privatized by removing it from the Malaysia Stock Exchange.             (Ananda Krishnan to buy out Telco Maxis, 2007).
      Ananda’s reason for such a decision was to diversify or facilitate into the overseas market. According to the Chairman of Binariang Group, financing to debt over equity will enable Maxis to expand outside Malaysia. Ananda also plans to return Maxis back again to the Malaysia Stock Exchange after the company has earned its stable profit. Since he has obtained completely all the shares, he had planned to expand Maxis into countries such as Indonesia and India in order to achieve a greater flexibility, furthermore increasing the stock rate to a higher value. Collaboration is another principle, which Ananda applies in his business strategy.          He collaborates with global industries to provide services. Collaboration allows him to diversify his businesses further and builds a healthy relationship between two countries with government support. In his early days with Exoil Trading, he collaborated with an American geologist Tom Cantwell to acquire rights to drill in Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and the North Sea. This collaboration aims to create a flexible expansion for Exoil Trading globally. Apart from Exoil Trading, Ananda also bided to buy over Singapore’s No.2 cellular Company, Singtel and Australian’s No 1 Telecommunication Company Telstra by striking a joint venture with Hong Kong’s PCCW another telecommunication company. Australian’s Telstra did not agree to the collaboration strategy and yet it did not discourage him in anyway. Ananda had his dreams of creating a regional media empire, which could deliver broadband services in other countries. He has entered into a collaboration with the world’s biggest cellular service provider, Vodafone which has already started operation in Australia and New Zealand. In order to gain competitive edge against its challenger Telstra, Ananda has also made another business collaboration deal with India’s Telecommunication group, Aircel by obtaining 74 % of its stake. (Ananda Krishnan to buy out Telco Maxis, 2007).

 Open Culture

     The meaning of open culture is often associated with the customs and habits or rituals conducted by a country or a group of people. In the current business and international markets, the values and concerns of the local culture and the country should be taken into account. Companies’ holding companies should be sensitive and responsive to this issue where it plays an important role in the continuation of the current business to be successful both on the international level as well as the country itself. Implementation of cultural values should be parallel and synchronous with the norms of the local community. The application shall be made at the planning stage or sales negotiations.
     The important thing in the business world is adopting an open cultural properties. Open culture means respecting and honouring someone who is too important, especially in the field of entrepreneurship. Open culture properties are Important in themselves a successful entrepreneur. In the business world, nature presents an open culture where the nature of an entrepreneur is less practice compete with other companies. Primarily reflecting one’s personal culture in the business.       Datuk Maznah Binti Hamid, Pengerusi Eksekutif Kumpulan Securiforce, a woman who became a catalyst for a lot of figures to prove that women could also venture into successful and usually done by men. She will share every step of business to everyone without any secrets because for her, every success as she could, all the people shall be the success it. She did not practice the concept of competing in the business, but her practice of sharing in the field of entrepreneurship. Because too deep an interest in the business world, she is too fend of sharing each step that is set in its business, she was not shy to share with other entrepreneurs, to her the business world should adopt an open cultural properties. (Robiatuladawiyah Abd Rashad, 2013).

Outcome Orientation

    An outcome orientation means where what matters is the outcome, whether you win or lose or achieve a certain target is presumably contrasted with something like a process orientation, where the focus is on the way you play or perform. For example, a high jumper with an outcome orientation will be concentrating on clearing the bar at a particular height or winning the competition whereas someone with a process orientation will be thinking more about the details of their style and performance and could be happy with the outcome even if they lose if they feel that they actually performed very well. ( Armorel Young, (n.d).

     Datuk Alif Syukri have this traits outcome oriented in his life. His involvement in the business world germinate during childhood. Starting with a small business finally paid off handsomely now. Present in the family who did not make his high-end value every penny they have. He started his business since he was seven years while living with his grandmother in New Ross Malaysia, Selangor. His spirit is present to do business when you see her schoolmates took over 50 cents of pocket money while he was only 20 cents. Looking around her grandmother's house there are mango and guava trees grow fast, without asking for his help, climb a tree and the results made pickles for sale at the school. ( Armorel Young, (n.d).

        Various methods employed by him to make the product at par with other products in a wider market. For example, he made his acting advertising to promote its products through a television program with the slogan ‘terlanjak laris’. He is so committed to making his product other brand equivalent. Despite the many obstacles that have to bear, he continued to get outcome oriented. For him to get a result should be oriented in various ways, no matter how difficult it or not. ( Armorel Young, (n.d).

 Conclusion

       To be successful in sustainable business practices often requires entrepreneurship and innovation. This chapter provides an overview of entrepreneurship and innovation as it relates to sustainable business. The discussion is most relevant to sustainable businesses focused on offering new products and services in response to societal concerns. The importance of entrepreneurship and innovation also applies to companies that change how they produce products and services. The latter companies can use innovative practices and entrepreneurship to establish their brand name and to be market leaders in doing things that create shared value for society and their companies and also, over time, contribute to changes in practices in their industry.
